Soccer cards are booming worldwide, and graded soccer slabs are one of the easiest ways to collect the biggest stars in the game. Here is a guide to the main soccer card brands, the cards collectors chase and what to check before you buy a soccer slab.
The Main Soccer Card Brands
- Topps Chrome UEFA Champions League / Club Competitions: chrome cards of players at the top European clubs, with Refractor, Sapphire and numbered parallels
- Panini Prizm World Cup and Euro: national team cards released around major tournaments
- Panini Select: league sets like Select La Liga with Silver, Cracked Ice and other parallels
- Panini stickers: the classic World Cup sticker albums. Graded stickers of legends like Ronaldo, Messi and Ronaldinho have become serious collectibles
Soccer Slabs Collectors Chase
Legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and Pelé remain the blue chips. Current superstars like Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham have huge followings, and young stars like Lamine Yamal and Cole Palmer drive much of the rookie market. Early cards, low numbered parallels and high grades command the biggest premiums.
What Counts as a Soccer Rookie Card?
Soccer rookies are less tidy than in North American sports, because players appear in different brands at different ages. Most collectors treat a player’s first licensed Topps Chrome or Panini Prizm/Select card with the RC logo as the key rookie. Read our guide to rookie cards for more.
Why Buy Graded Soccer Cards?
- The grade is verified by a third party, so condition is not a guess
- The slab protects the card from damage and humidity
- Authenticity is checked, which matters for stickers and older cards

What to Check Before You Buy a Soccer Slab
- Look up the cert number on the grader’s site. See how to check a PSA cert
- Check the population report to see how rare the grade is
- Compare recent sold prices, not asking prices
- Make sure the photos show the exact slab you will receive
